On The Street In Hungary there are about 30 000 – 50 000 homeless people who mainly huddle in the streets, doorways, abandoned building sites, railway stations or in hollows. Nowadays the sight of people sitting in doorways and on street-corners is not unusual in Budapest. People are confronted with the condition of the homeless and the intolerable situation chiefly during the cold winter days. For instance, in January of 2001 – in the coldest month of the year – 26 people froze to death in spite of the fact that 73 state regional governmental organizations, as well as 33 religious and foundation organizations participated in providing care for homeless.
